More fun with colors and shading. This time a caricature of the president's policy advisor, Stephen Miller. Inspired by a joke from The Late Show. #gargamel
Happy 2018 everyone! Continuing my highly unusual construction of The Maintainer. Drawing and tracing and drawing and tracing... I'm happy to report I'm having a lot of fun with this again. It was touch-and-go for a while there, re-writing the text, creating a font, tracing the text, building the whole story in Pixton, designing the characters, tracing the Pixton work... I guess I felt like a one-man staff here, but I've learned a lot from the process and I'm feeling particularly motivated.
Although I'm not thrilled with the direction my country has been headed, I'm optimistic about the future and I'm fortunate to have much to be thankful for from 2017. Life is complex and often unforgiving, but treating others with respect should remain a priority for us all - it's what keeps our collective heads above the water. Love to all - sending good vibes your way. Stay constructive!
A lot happens in a year. I'm newly engaged, had several significant things happen with work, helped resolve and/or ease family issues, moved, dealt with severe weather... I think I also must've rebooted this site 2 or 3 times. My apologies for lack of updates.
Life is good, though. I'm realizing more and more the importance of keeping optimistic and appreciating my blessings. Times can be rough and uncertain. The current political climate here, for me and many others, is agonizing. But we gotta keep our heads up, gotta keep working and fighting for the right things.
I'm looking at 2018 as a fresh start. My living situation has changed, my finances have changed, life generally feels a bit different, and I want to do better all-around. Part of this process will be building my portfolio and sharing more of my work with you guys.
My first order of business will be completing The Maintainer, which many of you probably know as my epic book project about my dad that has gone on and on. The good news is that it's in the final stages, and as I reach the end, I'll be posting new images from this exhaustive process. I'm pretty happy with what I've got, so look forward to that!
I may also share some of my writings, particularly my plays and scripts, that I've stockpiled for some time. All kinds of offbeat, interesting (I hope) things coming your way. Watch for 'em!
